Approach Shoes

Modern approach shoes combine the features of both hiking boots and rock climbing shoes, providing a snug, supportive fit while excelling in grip for maximum traction on a variety of surfaces along a mountain approach. Often referred to as hybrid approach shoes the term is believed to have originated in the armed forces when lighter weight footwear was used to approach the destination.

Designed for summer approaches, approach shoes typically feature specialised sticky rubber soles for better grip on steeper grades of rock and like a good pair of hiking boots, approach shoes will be comfortable, supportive and often moisture wicking as well as breathable, windproof and waterproof.
