Runners invited to celebrate 150th anniversary of a town hall clock

Runners are being invited to turn up in Tredegar in Wales with their running shoes and enter a race to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the town hall clock.

It does not matter whether runners are wearing Mizuno, Ecco or Keen shoes as long as they are willing to take on the 21 mile 'clock-to-clock' run between the respective clocks in Tredegar and Newport, say organisers.

With this year's event being held on June 22nd, the run is one of the oldest long distance races in Wales, if not the UK, first staged back in 1963.

International athletes such as Norman Wilson, Dave Francis, Alan Rushmer, Maurice Cowman, Ali Cole, Ritchie Bullen and Dave and John Walsh and the course record of one hour, 53 minutes and 26 seconds was set by Bob Sercombe in 1973.

Local runners in Club 69 used to be regular winners of the team trophy especially in the latter years. If you fancy attempting to emulate their achievements then you will need footwear which balances comfort with durability.

Running shoes from Merrell, Keen and Hi-Tec are available here from Fitness Footwear.
