Radcliffe out of London Marathon

Paula Radcliffe has been forced to drop out of the London Marathon after a toe tendon injury.

The injury means she will not be able to attempt to win her fourth London Marathon title and comes five months before the Beijing Olympics.

"I am desperately disappointed that I have to pull out of this year's race," she said.

"I love running London and this race would have been the perfect test for me before the Olympic Games."

The 34-year-old injured her right foot while undertaking altitude training in New Mexico and has said her focus is now on competing in Beijing in August.

London Marathon organiser David Bedford expressed regret that Radcliffe would not compete and wished her a speedy recovery.

The line-up for the women's event in 2008 includes Gete Wami, Berhane Adere and Constantina Tomescu-Dita.
