Jog on, Nigerian workers told

A Nigerian government agency has introduced a new rule that may see its employees dashing out to buy new Merrells - compulsory jogging sessions.

The Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) has said that all its staff in the Federal Capital Territory have to take part in the new monthly exercises, reports the Tide Online.

Around 500 marshals, officers, soldiers, police staff and civil defence personnel joined in the first five kilometre jog.

Speaking to the site, Osita Chidoka, the corps marshal, said; "We want to ensure that officers and marshals who are saddled with the responsibility of accident reduction and life saving are physically fit and healthy."

He also revealed that there are plans to introduce a marathon race to FRSC officers, with the best runners being put forward to compete in national and international events.

The FRSC has introduced the jogging programme to improve employee fitness, but about.com also notes that the exercise can aid mental health, with joggers benefiting from stress relief, building confidence and reducing anxiety.ADNFCR-1002-ID-18494297-ADNFCR
