Wearing your running shoes can make you happy
Those suffering with depression are being told to get their running shoes on and go for a run, hit the golf course or the squash court by doctors, according to a recent survey.
Findings from the Mental Health Foundation, found that 22 per cent of doctors instructed those with milder forms of the condition to dig out their Ecco, Merrell and Hi-Tec trainers and partake in exercise.
This is compared with just five per cent of doctors who recommended the treatment three years ago.
Andrew McCulloch, the Mental Health Foundation’s chief executive, said: “Depression is a complex illness – it is important that doctors have a range of treatments to offer and that people with depression have a choice.”
The research has shown that undertaking exercise can improve peoples’ self-esteem by helping them improve their body-image, enabling them to achieve goals and by relieving feelings of tension and isolation.
If you fancy following the recommendations of some doctors then you will need footwear which combines durability with comfort.
Shoes which fit the bill from the likes of Ecco, Merrell and Keen are available from here at Fitness Footwear.
