Top wheelchair athletes will defend their titles in the London Marathon to be held on April 13th.
David Weir and Shelly Woods, both from the UK, will compete in the 2008 Flora London Marathon wheelchair race for a record prize pool.
The purse for the elite wheelchair events has been increased to over £25,000 - with the winners of the men's and women's races taking home £7,500 each.
Mr Weir, who has won the event three times previously, said: "London was already one of the most important races of the year for me, but the greater profile will help to make it one of the most sought-after titles for all elite wheelchair athletes."
Ms Woods agreed, adding that the increased prize pool would give her an extra incentive to protect her title.
Last year, Mr Weir completed the marathon in one hour 30 minutes, while Ms Woods achieved first after one hour 50 minutes.
