Regular exercise 'will help you live longer'

Putting on your Mizunorunning shoes and going for a jog along with eating healthily are activities which could help you live longer, according to new research.

A study conducted at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston showed that getting outside in your Hi-Tec or Ecco trainers to exercise, train in the gym or even get on the golf course are activities three times more important in helping you live longer than characteristics in your genes.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, leading researcher, Dr Laural Yates, said: "Smoking, diabetes, obesity and hypertension significantly reduced the likelihood of a 90-year life span, while regular vigorous exercise substantially improved it."

Researchers studied almost 2,400 men in an attempt to investigate how to have an "exceptionally long life".

An estimated 41 per cent of participants lived to be 90 or over, with the variation in human life spans found to be linked to variables such as smoking, diet and exercise.
