Fell runners gather in Cumberland
Fell runners in Cumberland may well be strapping on running shoes from the likes of Hi-Tec, Merrell and Keen when they convene for the start of the season on January 19th.
The annual Jarrett’s January Jaunt provides fell runners with their first opportunity to take on the hills in 2008 and dig out their running shoes.
As with previous Jaunt handicap races, the first wave of runners will be off at 13:00 GMT with others following at 30 second intervals until the event’s fastest participants leave last.
Speaking to the Times & Star, organiser Harold Jarrett said: “All I ask is that runners turn up and take part in what is a bit of pre-season fun. Every year the handicap throws up a winner that no one could have picked, prior to start.”
“As is always the case there will be hot soups, cakes, teas and biscuits for one and all, plus dozens of prizes,” he concluded.
