Exercise to fight obesity

The government has announced that millions of pounds are to be spent on a new campaign to fight obesity – with exercise being one of the main weapons against the epidemic.

Running shoes from the likes of Mizuno, Ecco and Merrell could play an important part in shaping the future of a slimmer Britain.

The strategy includes the provision of £30 million to support the development of healthy towns where residents are encouraged to walk or cycle rather than drive.

According to the Guardian, Health secretary Alan Johnson said: “The core of the problem is simple - we eat too much and we do too little exercise.”

“The solution is more complex. It is not the government’s role to hector or lecture people, but we have a duty to support them in leading healthier lifestyles,” he added.

Proposals are also set to encourage the ‘Walking into Health’ campaign, an endeavour aiming to get a third of the population in England walking an extra thousand steps every day by 2012.

If you are looking to undertake more exercise, then suitable footwear from the likes of Mizuno, Ecco and Keen can be found here at Fitness Footwear.
