Americans give their shoes away for charity
If you own spare pairs of shoes maybe from the likes of Ecco, Mizuno or Merrell or other famous brands, you can follow in the footsteps of an American basketball coach – and donate your footwear to charity.
Ron Hunter, a basketball coach, went barefoot at a game after being issued a challenge from, chairman of the Samaritan’s Feet charity, Manny Ohonme.
The charity is aiming to provide as many as ten million pairs of shoes to impoverished people over the course of the next decade.
Speaking to news14.com, Mr Ohonme described Hunter’s reasoning behind making the gesture.
“He said, ‘you know what? If there are that many millions of people around the world that don’t have shoes, and I can coach a game without shoes on, I think I’ll be glad to do that to be able to draw awareness to this and see, maybe we can raise 40,000 shoes’,” said Mr Ohonme.
Within a day and a half Mr Hunter’s gesture, 110,000 had been raised.
If you need some footwear, whether for yourself or to give away to charity, then shoes from the likes of Ecco and Merrell are available here at Fitness Footwear.
