30,000 runners head to Dubai for $1 million prize

Thousands of pairs of trainers from the likes of Hi-Tec, Mizuno, Merrell and Ecco are anticipated to be worn this weekend as up to 30,000 athletes converge on Dubai for the biggest running events of 2008 so far.

With a prize tag of $1 million, the 2008 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon features some of the cream of running talent, including world record holder Haile Gebrselassie making his final appearance before retirement.

Speaking to Middleeastevents.com event co-ordinator Ahmad Al Kamali said it is no surprise that punters and the press are keen to watch the event.

“Haile Gebrselassie is a sporting legend who attracts the media wherever he runs,” he said

“Add in the fact that he is running in the sport’s richest-ever race in one of the world’s most exciting cities and it is understandable why so many media have decided to cover the event,” he continued.

If you want to start running and exercise you’ll need to wear suitable footwear which balances comfort with durability.

Brands such as Hi-Tec, Keen and Ecco should not be too hard to find at the event or at Fitness Footwear and Onshoes websites.
