We've heard of crocodile shoes, but snake shoes?

Some years ago Jimmy Nail charmed audiences with TV drama and follow up musical lament Crocodile Shoes, but he may have to come up with a new hit in honour of a bizarre footwear installation at Harrods.

Snake Shoes could be the next footwear-based song, after luxury retailer Harrods brought in a live Egyptian cobra to guard a pair of £62,000 Rene Caovilla sandals encrusted with ruby-sapphires and diamonds.

Shop-owner Mohammed Al-Fayed was temporarily ousted as the most famous Egyptian on site, with the cobra from his home country stealing the limelight at Monday's launch of the sandals.

The guardian cobra, named Cedrick, has now been returned home after successfully preventing burglary of the red heels and their 3.5-carat diamond.

Fitness Footwear has less extreme methods of protecting its footwear, but offers a range of sandals that Cedrick would be proud to defend if called to duty.

Birkenstock offers an array of quality sandals, for women, for example the great value Madrid model at only £32.99 here on Fitness Footwear.ADNFCR-1002-ID-18278674-ADNFCR
