Sandal scandal takes Agassi from court to court-room

Andre Agassi may have been dealt many blows by the imperious serve and volley of rival Pete Sampras over the years, but it is now the supposedly backhanded tactics of retailer Target that he is confronting.

The 1992 Wimbledon winner has filed a lawsuit against leading US retailer Target for its suspected unlawful use of his name on a home-brand of sandals.

Agassi Enterprises, the tennis-star's endorsed company, claimed that permission had not been agreed for use of his name on the sandal, a claim refuted by Target.

Claimed contact with Agassi Enterprises to have spanned over months, Target spokeswoman Brie Heath said that "we were surprised by the lawsuit, as we have been participating in good-faith negotiations".

The lawsuit estimated that more than 52,500 pairs of the shoe, to the value of $661,000 (£328,600), had been sold in stores or online, making the claim a potentially costly one for Target.

Here on Fitness Footwear a number of less scandalous sandals are available, with great quality court shoes such as the bargain Hi-Tec classic offering the kind of sporting comfort that stars like Agassi need when choosing court over court-room.ADNFCR-1002-ID-18287610-ADNFCR
