Revamped Robin Hood Marathon good to go

The Robin Hood Marathon, one of the UK's biggest sporting events, has been given a makeover before this year's start.

Set for the September 16th, this year's race is now reclassified as part of the Experian Robin Hood Festival of Running, a revamped event that hopes to be as impressive as its name.

A new-look marathon day features a wide range of running events designed to attract runners of from across the age and ability spectrum. New is the Full Marathon Team Relay section, allowing teams of five to split the full marathon course between them.

Organisers said that with a new focus it hoped to "encourage more people to get involved in a bid to 'Shape Up Nottingham' ".

The number of people entered into the event is intended to be raised by 50 per cent over the next three years, in the hope of reaching a target of 20,000 entrants by 2009.

Founded over 25 years ago, with start and finish in Nottingham's Old Market Square, the race is now launched from the city's Victoria Embankment, from where eager runners take on the 26.2 mile course.
