Pioneering Birkenstock heads out north-west
Different parts of America have different shoe trends, with Birkenstock top-dog in the north-west, say students at Pepperdine University in California.
The Pepperdine Graphic, the Malibu-based university's online student forum, ran an article highlighting the importance of footwear to fashion-conscious students, detecting interesting regional trends.
Miriam McSpadden, a second-year student from Oregon, told the Pepperdine Graphic that Birkenstock was the unrivalled leading brand in her native north-west region, attributing its popularity to the affinity locals feel to the chunky shoe.
“Birkenstocks basically rule the north-west, especially Oregon," she said, adding that "they're not the cutest shoe ever, but they're just so comfortable. That is really more the north-west feel".
The brand seems then to succeed with the traditionally laid-back folk of the north-west with its no-fuss comfortable models of shoe, appealing especially to an age-bracket traditionally more laid-back than any – students!
