Preparation is well under way for the Great Eastern Run, an annual half-marathon stretching 13.1 miles around the streets of Peterborough.
While continuing to encourage participation, race organisers also urged local businesses to sponsor prizes for the five km fun run which accompanies the half-marathon.
Both races will take place on Sunday 14th October, with the fun run providing a lighter alternative to the gruelling 13.1 mile main run and bringing in participants of all ages who either walk or run, some even attiring themselves in fancy dress and many collecting sponsorship for charities.
The call for local business to support the race looks to raise the profile of the five km event and to reward winners.
Race organiser, Kathleen Kathleen McGrath, said that "by sponsoring a spot prize on the day, businesses can play their part in rewarding the efforts of runners and increase their enjoyment of the day too".
She added that with the fun run of equal importance to the half-marathon, she aimed to make the Great Eastern Run "an annual highlight in the national sporting calendar, attracting local, national and international athletes".
Runners looking to participate in either race will need durable footwear, such as offered by the comprehensive ranges of Birkenstock and Merrell shoes sold by Fitness Footwear.
