Merrell and Patagonia boost outdoor shoe sales

With shoe markets showing good signs of growth, Merrell and Patagonia were named among brands that keep innovating and bringing shoppers to footwear outlets.

Newspaper the Investor's Business Daily highlighted ways that the shoe business is defying sluggish retail sales in the US, with innovative style and design a key factor in raising sales.

"If there is not something hot or new, then people aren't going to spend their money," Meredith Derby, editor at Footwear News, told the Investor's Business Daily.

Also praised were efforts by companies to expand into the international market, with the practice now a mainstay of many footwear companies, firmly established in manufacturing and selling abroad.

As brands capable of being both style-aware and geared toward international markets, the newspaper complimented Merrell and Patagonia for keeping their outdoor shoes appealing, to the benefit of sellers.
