Mablethorpe hosts second annual marathon

The streets of Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire sounded to the beat of countless running shoes on Sunday as the town successfully hosted its second annual marathon.

Local paper the Louth Leader even reported the attendance of French and American runners to buoy the ranks of British athletes descending on the seaside town, 18 miles to the north of Skegness.

The 26.2 mile marathon was one of three races taking place on Sunday, alongside a half marathon and a ten kilometre fun-run, making the events suitable for runners of diverse abilities and experience.

September 2006 saw the first Mablethorpe Marathon, with its inauguration marking the birth of Lincolnshire's first full marathon event to be recognised and backed by the UK Athletic Association.

Runners turning up for the marathon again this year enjoyed a varied all-road course, with some stretches along country roads and a final three-mile homeward route along a scenic seaside promenade.
