Charity torch run keeps glowing

Canadian city Winnipeg is the latest location where police officers will get a chance to leave their handcuffs aside and take part in a Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Today's race is part of the global running project in aid of the Special Olympics, forming the competition's largest fundraising event.

Participating in a Law Enforcement Torch Run is no new thing, with the movement celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2006, having raised an impressive $25.5 million (£12.4 million) for the Special Olympics.

Local paper the Winnipeg Sun claimed that in the Manitoba province of Canada alone, the run has raised more than $2 million for the Special Olympics since starting in 1988.

Today's race will see police officers run 7.5 km around Winnipeg, with many hoping to avoid humiliation in front of colleagues and complete the race in a respectable time.

Runners in races such as these require durable footwear that will keep a spring in their step, with shoe models from many great brands available here on Fitness Footwear.ADNFCR-1002-ID-18289153-ADNFCR
