New Balance re-opens factory

New Balance has re-opened a US factory after an accident forced its closure on Friday.

The incident caused one of its employees to suffer minor injuries and the evacuation of the premises, according to a report in the Kennebec Journal.

However, following repairs to the factory in Skowhegan, operations resumed on Sunday afternoon.

The building is staffed by 367 employees and dates back to 1872 when it was first occupied by rival shoe manufacturer Keene.

News of Friday's incident, follows the announcement that New Balance's Flimby factory has produced 1.4 million pairs of New Balance shoes this year, and is on course to make around three million pairs of trainers a year, should demand for the footwear continue at its present rate.

Fitness Footwear sells an extensive range of New Balance footwear, as well as shoes from all the leading sports shoes manufacturers.
