UK footwear factory, Flimby, looks like it may hit a record high of making three million pairs of New Balance trainers, in response to demand from the country's biggest sports chains.
So far this year, the plant has produced 1.4 million pairs, 300,000 more than this time last year and if growth continues at this rate, the firm predicts that production could hit the three million mark in the next few years.
The American-owned New Balance brand made at the factory is currently the fastest-growing brand on the high street with sales at some stores up 75 per cent compared with this time last year.
JJB chief executive, Tom Knight, was optimistic about the future of the brand, saying: "With shoes made in the UK, and the strength New Balance brings, being the number two brand in the US, we believe we can look forward to further gains towards our common goals of profitable and sustainable growth."
