Harrington wins Irish Open in Hi-Tec shoes
Padraig Harrington has triumphed in the Irish Open at Adare Manor to become the first homegrown winner of the tournament for 25 years.
Harrington had a two-shot lead going into the 72nd hole, but went on to card a bogey, allowing Welshman Bradley Dredge to draw level and set up a nail-biting sudden-death play-off.
Both players pushed their drives right, but a poor third from Dredge saw Harrington seal victory with a par.
Harrington said: “I feel sorry for Bradley because he really came at me. I felt the pressure. It was probably the most nervous I’ve been for many a tournament.
“The crowd was fantastic. Even when I saved for bogey they cheered and the applause definitely gave me a boost.”
