Surfers flock to yoga classes

A California businesswoman offering yoga classes targeted at surfers has turned her business into a £100,000 a year enterprise.

Since founding Yoga For Surfers, Peggy Hall, 47, is attracting men and women surfers drawn by the suitability of yoga as training for the rigours of the sport.

In particular, Ms Hall's classes focus on stretches to boost shoulder and upper body strength and visualisation and breathing exercises to help relaxation when out in the surf.

Hall told Fort Wayne.com: "You are in complete immersion. It's so freeing for the rest of your mind. Surfing is also considered a very spiritual endeavor. People will say 'I feel like my soul was cleansed.' The same thing in yoga."

Fitness Footwear offers a range of shoes suitable for yoga and walking, including the Balance Step from Chung-Shi.

Chung-Shi shoes have been praised by health experts for the raft of innovative features they incorporate including a rubber negative heel sole, which improves posture and can help to reduce cellulite.
