Murray-mania causing a racket

Tennis shoes and rackets could be the order of the day for young sports enthusiasts in the UK, as Andy Murray's storming form keeps all eyes on the sport.

As Murray aims for a place at the Shanghai Masters, where the world's top eight lock horns, tennis in his native Scotland is taking off.

According to the Herald newspaper, leisure centres in Glasgow have recently seen a 35 per cent rise in junior tennis participation rates – with the rise attributed to the inspiration of Dunblane-born Murray's story.

While Murray prepares for his quarter-final clash in the current Paris ATP Masters, his young emulators can attend this week's Glasgow Festival of Tennis, organised by Tennis Scotland and Culture and Sport Glasgow.

Performing well at Wimbledon and this year notching up ATP tournament wins in St Petersburg and San Jose, Murray has kept alive British tennis interest just as Tim Henman's star has faded.

Between them, the two have have reignitied British hopes at Wimbledon and beyond, ending a long lean spell and encouraging youngsters to don tennis shoes and go even further.
