Hong Kong Trailwalker tests endurance

UK charity running events can often involve festive cheer and amusing costumes, but no tomfoolery can be had at one of the Far East's most gruelling hiking events.

The 100 km Trailwalker in Hong Kong is organised for the benefit of charity Oxfam, but the event itself is more of an army-style endurance test then a fun charity stroll.

Hiking boots are indeed necessary, but participants need to ensure they are as durable as possible, with Hong Kong's tough and mountainous countryside scaled over a 48-hour straight period.

Oxfam has run the event since 1986, with thousands of outdoor enthusiasts and steely athletes taking on the course as it spans 20 tough hills and mountains including Hong Kong's highest.

A Nepalese Ghurka participating in the event told Reuters: "Mentally and physically you feel better if you can complete this ... you have some peace in your mind."

Peace of mind may come at a cheaper price to others, with hiking boots available here at Fitness Footwear to serve a range of outdoor events, from the fun to the exhausting.ADNFCR-1002-ID-18377716-ADNFCR
