That’s where our guide to the top 5 Gore-Tex shoes comes in. We’ve selected five of our best selling Gore-Tex shoes from a variety of our best outdoor brands to demonstrate what you can get for your money whether you’re looking for a top of the line technical trainer or a traditional walking shoe that offers comfort, support and essential Gore-Tex breathability and waterproof protection.
Our first Gore-Tex shoe is a low profile, higher performance multi-sport shoe. This is the latest Merrell Chameleon which combines the best features of the various Chameleon models that came before it as well as elements of other best selling Merrell shoes. For added waterproof protection, Merrell has also utilised a Gore-Tex (GTX) membrane.
As a manufacturer, Merrell are renowned for the comfort and fit of their footwear. This model in particular is focussed on offering superior fit, breathability and grip. The most obvious feature is the Stability Arm which is designed to lock the heel in place to prevent your foot from moving while walking or running. Meanwhile mesh ports along the sides allow air to flow freely through the shoe, keeping your feet cool. Combined with the Gore-Tex membrane, the shoe remains breathable, but also waterproof. Although with this much mesh, we wouldn’t recommend walking through a stream in these shoes, otherwise these are perfect for walking in the rain as well as wet and muddy trails. Finally, the specially made Chameleon3 sole made by Vibram offers excellent grip wherever your adventure might take you and despite all their extra features, these shoes are still light enough for a full day of hiking.
Next up is the Hedgehog GTX XCR from North Face. This is also a technical multi-sport shoe that utilises a large amount of mesh to provide fast cooling breathability. However, North Face has employed the more powerful Gore-Tex XCR membrane for superior waterproof protection. So you certainly won’t be going swimming in these shoes, but against heavy rain, wet grass and other every day encounters with water, your socks should stay nice and dry.
The North Face Hedgehog while taking its name from the incredibly spiky grip which gives it excellent traction on all manner of surfaces. Meanwhile the Northotic footbed, EVA midsole, Heel X-2 02 air pod and trainer-like design makes them incredibly comfortable and exceptionally well cushioned.
Incredibly light, hard wearing and well cushioned, this multi-sport shoe is perfect for walking, trail running and general everyday use. We wouldn’t recommend wearing these in the dead of winter, but for the other 3 seasons, the North Face Hedgehog is an excellent Gore-Tex shoe and that comes in a variety of colours for both men and women.
Inov-8 are a trail running shoe specialist, so when it comes to provide waterproof protection, excellent grip and hard wearing comfort for your feet, they're well ahead of the game. Their Flyroc 345 GTX is our best selling Inov-8 shoe and it's clear to see why when it combines an eye catching design and a wealth of technical features.
Just because these shoes were designed for trail running doesn't mean that they don't have a hundred other applications from everyday comfort to cycling, walking and even running in wet weather conditions.
Out of all the Gore-Tex shoes gathered here, the Inov-8 Flyroc is the best by far when it comes to grip, using deep, multi-direction lugs for serious off-roading, trail walking and even wet and slippery surfaces.
The Gore-Tex XCR laminate is located underneath the fabric mesh, so these are a lightweight and breathable while keeping you completely dry so long as you don't step in a puddle that's deeper than your ankle.
Made exclusively for women, the Merrell Siren Sport Gore-Tex is great for walking or running across wet fields and muddy footpaths. Using a Gore-Tex gasket construction, the breathable mesh is positioned higher above the sole for maximum breathability while the Gore-Tex membrane allows fresh air to flow into the shoes while keeping rain water out and keeping your feet comfortable in a wider temperature range.
The extensive use of mesh makes these Gore-Tex shoes incredibly light, so you can walk (or run) for longer with less fatigue. Meanwhile the Q Form foot frame provides a snug, secure fit and the specially made Vibram Siren sole adds stability and traction for off road running, speed hiking or trail biking.
With plenty of cushioning, a tenacious grip and all the unbeatable comfort that the Merrell brand is renowned for, the Merrell Siren Sport Gore-Tex is an excellent example of everything a woman’s Gore-Tex shoe should be.

This Gore-Tex model of the Brasher Countrymaster is crafted from rugged full grain leather, which makes it ideal for dog and country walking while the Gore-Tex membrane has been incorporated into the fabric lining for complete waterproof protection while maintaining a comfortable level of breathability.
The Brasher Countrymaster GTX is smartly styled and while it may weigh a good deal more than the modern mesh ventilated outdoors shoe, what it lacks in technical features, it makes up for in comfort and good looks.
