The Gore-Tex bi-component membrane contains over 9 billion microscopic pores per square inch. Each of these pores is 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, but 700 times bigger than a molecule of moisture.
So whilst water droplets cannot penetrate the membrane, moisture vapour (a gas) can easily escape, making Gore-Tex totally waterproof and windproof while remaining breathable
The Gore-Tex membrane is also highly durable, extremely lightweight and cold resistant for a winning combination of 100% waterproof and 100% windproof protection being very breathable for cool, dry comfort. Gore-Tex is also seam sealed to prevent holes made by needles during construction from causing leaks.
