What activities are Five Fingers best suited to?

One of the great things about Five Fingers is the range of activities can be used for. If you can do it on your feet you can do it in Five Fingers. The natural feeling and the superb grip means that in the wet and dry you can rely on excellent grip, and they are a really healthy alternative to standard shoes. The Sprint model is best for running and general fitness training with the classics models ideal for martial arts, yoga, Pilates, climbing, bouldering, canyoneering, water sports fishing and light trekking. The comfort makes them great for travelling too!

How can I clean Five Fingers shoes?

Just chuck them in the washing machine on a 40º cycle and they will be as fresh and clean as the day you bought them.

The shoes were great after the first few days however my Classics have started to make my feet ache a bit. What should I do?

The path to a better and healthier body is not always easy. Changing your style of walking is not something that everyone can adapt to quickly. It is recommended trying the shoes for only a few hours each day to get your feet used to the new walking style. At first it is natural to experience a little discomfort as you build up strength in your feet. The muscles in the feet have probably not been used to having to work so much and they may need a day off. If pain continues for more than a couple of weeks it is advisable to consult a doctor, or if the pain feels like it is in the joint rather than the muscles. Sometimes joints in the feet can stiffen up after years of conventional shoes, which become apparent when you change to barefoot walking.

What shoe size should I choose as my size is not on the size conversion chart?

Five Fingers are supposed to offer a tight fit like a second skin. It is best to choose a size smaller than what you usually wear. Our customers back this up and find that smaller is better than going a size up.

I want to start barefoot running. Can I head straight out to the track in my new Vibram Five Fingers Sprints?

If you are used to barefoot running then you can get straight to it as your feet will be conditioned to the running style. If not, whilst you will probably be fine, it is recommended to start off with short distances to get your feet used to the new way of running. If you want to try out a longer run, try the shoes on soft ground first and if you feel any tiredness or soreness take a break. If you build up the distance slowly, before long you will be joining the ranks of the many barefoot and Five Finger footed marathon runners.

Will Five Fingers cure me from joint pain?

Five fingers allow you to return to barefoot walking with a little extra protection for the feet. Whilst changing to a more flat footed landing does reduce the shockwaves from walking and running, the shoes offer no cushioning. The shoes will improve your posture but it is likely that the shoes alone will not cure all of your ills and you many need medical attention.

I have been told that I am an over pronator, will Vibram Five Fingers help?

They are one of the best shoes to help with the problem. If you wear Vibram Five Fingers regularly they will help you to correct over pronation, however it is wise to consult a specialist who will be able to give you exercises to try out in your new shoes.

My feet supinate, can I still wear Five Fingers?

Supination means the foot is rigid, and taking away all cushioning is likely to cause jarring. However as long as you limber up and loosen the muscles of the foot before exercising the shoes can be highly beneficial and will help to activate the joints and muscles more than any other shoes on the market.

My feet are neutral; will Five Fingers help them to stay that way?

If you have normal, neutral, perfectly functioning feet Vibram Five Fingers will help to keep them that way. This standard walking gait means that you will adapt to Five Fingers quickly and will enjoy your Five Fingers immensely. You’ll be walking, running and giving a five toed wave to everyone you meet.
